The extension on this Vintage adjustable stem is prevented from being rotated by a strong sprinter because of the 'V' shaped cross section on its underside. The forces trying to rotate the bar are transmitted by this 'V' rather than to the binder bolt on top of the extension. The original pinch bolt on top of the extension has been replaced by a Sugino seat post bolt. Note the slightly damaged first three threads of the handlebar binder bolt. Compare the (almost) undamaged seat for this bolt with the damaged seat for the extension's pinch bolt (see last photo).
